DAILY WORD of BLESSED JAMES ALBERIONE 2023
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of our founder, Blessed James Alberione, we will reflect on his words and use them as our daily guide.
PRAYER INTENTION for JULY
Acquire a big heart, an apostolic heart, the heart of St Paul. How many nations did he reach! And where he did not arrive with his physical presence, he arrived with his heart, with his prayer, with his word... which still illuminates today all of theology, morality and ascetics, and illuminates the whole Church (Pr 5, 161).
Who, then, are the Cooperators? They are persons who have a sense of Christ. The Cooperators are persons who have a broader Christian education, a more lively faith. The Cooperators are the ones who lead the best life; they are those who are zealous and think about the salvation of souls (Pr 5, 155).
O Jesus, Divine Master, I thank and bless your most generous heart for the great gift of the Gospel. May it be known, honoured, welcomed by all! May the world conform its life, laws, customs, doctrines to it! May the fire that you brought upon the earth kindle, enlighten, warm everyone.
The Pauline Cooperator considers the activity, the zeal of the Apostle Paul; he reads willingly his life, his Letters and, thinking of the apostle’s great efforts in giving his life itself for Christ... he looks around and this gaze pushes him much ahead, through the Nations (Pr 5, 156-157).
Let us ask for the grace to form our heart and direct it totally to God: that is, to fulfil perfectly in us the first and principal commandment: «You will love the Lord your God with all your mind, with all your strength, with all your heart» (Pr 1, 158).
May the Gospel reach every nation, every individual, every family, and that it may inspire the laws, the school, the editions. Therefore, may it become the rule of every man and of all humanity. How many steps there are still to betaken! (Pr 1, 165-166).
It is necessary that we turn with more fervour to the Queen of Apostles... She is our Mother, Teacher and Queen: from her we expect the graces necessary for each one (RSp, 3).
Patience is necessary in everything. It is necessary for study, it is necessary for piety, it is necessary for the apostolate, it is necessary for anyone who wants to live as a man, as a Christian, as a religious; it is needed every hour, every moment (Pr 1, 145).
The Cooperator is a soul who joins us; that we must love;that we must help to be saved; that he then must help us so that the name of Jesus be carried everywhere, so that the Gospel, as St Paul says, «may spread and be glorified»(Pr 5, 159).
We must pray for the apostolate... so that the editing is done well, in the most useful way for souls; so that all the technical work is done well, in the most useful way for souls, that is pastoral; and diffusion takes place with that abundance and readiness that are most useful to the readers (Pr 1, 125).
There are souls who are in continuous ascension, others who live an inert life, without spiritual activity. And, unfortunately, sometimes it also happens to meet souls who go backwards, who grow in defects (Pr 1, 150-151).
There are people who not only forgive, but show greater benevolence, more openness, more goodness towards those from whom they have received disgust, displeasure. There are people who not only pray for those who have offended them but want to bless them (Pr 1, 177).
We must also pray for the enemies of the Church, pray for all so that all may be saved. Love the Church and follow her, and pray for her. Let us recite the Pact well, we who are called to work with the Church and for the Church(Pr 1, 174).
The Lord does not always grant the graces we ask him for the present life. However, he always grants the spiritual graces that we ask for… He grants material graces only to the extent that he sees that they contribute to the good of our soul (Pr 1, 167).
Faith! It fills our days with joy, even though in these we encounter difficulties, temptations, flattery… it makes us know how miserable the words of the worldly are and how precious the knowledge of the Gospel is (Pr 1, 167).
We must not look at what one does and what the other does: the ideal is to live by Jesus; it is to live like Jesus. He is the Master, only He is the Way that leads us to heaven(Pr 1, 70).
One who is foolish, spends his life in vain, without ordering it to eternal life; but one who is prudent and wise works according to the spirit, producing the fruits that Jesus Christ wants to produce in us (Pr 2, 147).
Let us pray for the Church, especially that there may be many ministers of God and that they may be full of faith,of zeal, and that they preach the divine word ever more effectively, so that the kingdom of God extends far and wide (Pr 1, 185).
We have the means and the end: the means, that is: meditation, examination, Mass, Visit, etc.; the goal: to live byfaith, to save ourselves with hope, to live more intimately united with Jesus Christ (Pr 1, 189).
We must appreciate the grace of God, the immense benefits that are received here in St Paul. Just as we no longer notice the sun that rises every morning, because we are used to it, so it happens with the greatest graces that the Lord grants (Pr 1, 190).
Jesus who came into us wants to produce his fruits in the soul: fruits of holiness, fruits of obedience, fruits of chastity, of good spirit, of poverty... Communion made daily with fervour produces great fruit (Pr 2, 26).
The Tabernacle is a mystery of faith: God-man, hidden under the appearance of bread. The Tabernacle is a mystery of love: the incarnate Son of God who gives himself to man as food. The Tabernacle is a mystery of grace: the supernatural life... is communicated and increased more and more every day (Pr 2, 24).
In piety, we love the Lord as our Father and we love thechildren of God as our brothers (Pr 2, 126).
The spirit of the world lies here, in the inclination to exchange the end with the means, that is, to make us seek happiness here below, satisfaction here below. As if we were created only for a few years and then everything ended with us. Everything begins at the end of the present life (Pr 2, 7).
The Institute must have a piety of a precise colour, uniform everywhere. From the uniformity of this colour come important consequences for the uniformity of the Pauline spirit: in thought, in sentiment, in the apostolate,in religious observance (Pr 1, 190).
It is each one of us who needs redemption: we all need this Master, who makes Himself our way, our truth, our life. Salvation in Him, holiness in Him, religious life in Him, Priesthood in Him; everything in Him (Pr 2, 7).
The Liturgy in the course of the year puts the life of Jesus Christ under our eyes, Sunday by Sunday, week by week... And then let us look at this life of Jesus Christ: let us consider it in its details and hear all the words of life that come from His lips (Pr 2, 8).
Mary was made Queen in order to be powerful in helping her children. Mary is rich in the riches of heaven, and these riches are for us. As she was full of grace to pour it out on all men, so she is filled with glory and has a crown of power, of wisdom and of love, to use her power, her wisdom, and her love for us (Pr 1, 34).
Oh, how many times have I resorted to other means and not to prayer! How often do men look left and right; they come and go and walk and ask for advice elsewhere, and they do not come to You, O Jesus! (RSp, 115).
There are people who, as the days go by, see themselves growing in virtues: from one year to the next, they grow stronger, become more lovers of poverty, of obedience, of study, of their duties. And there are people, however, who take the opposite path (Pr 2, 93).
Pride is a great error, a great disorder, a great injustice; it makes us small, it deprives us of gifts. Humility, on the other hand, brings us closer to God, brings us peace of heart, makes us partakers of the gifts of God and makes us win Heaven (Pr 2, 54).
