DAILY WORD of BLESSED JAMES ALBERIONE 2023

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of our founder, Blessed James Alberione, we will reflect on his words and use them as our daily guide.

PRAYER INTENTION for APRIL

Do we love souls? These souls that were created in the likeness of God; these souls that Jesus redeemed with his blood? Do we understand what it means to be saved forever, or to be forever lost? (Pr 1, 12).

Increase our faith, increase our love for God; then one possesses the supreme Good and, with the supreme Good, peace of mind, the merits for eternal life, a peaceful life on earth, a death accompanied by much trust and the definitive, eternal exaltation in Paradise (Pr 2, 151-152).

Jesus, Divine Master, we adore you as the Only Begotten of God, who came into the world to give Life to men, and the more abundant life. Live in us, O Jesus, with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, so that we can love you with all our mind, our strength, our heart; and love our neighbour as ourselves for your sake. Increase charity in us.

«Whoever humbles himself will be exalted and whoever exalts himself will be humbled». There are so many humble souls who, now, are not considered by the world, they are not esteemed; but one day they will rise up and occupy the best places in heaven. Let us be wise (Pr 1, 19).

Now we ask ourselves. Do we love the Church, this Church that God has established in the world as the continuer of his work? And do we follow all her provisions? And do we pray with her and for her? (Pr 1, 23).

Whoever is cold will never do the apostolate well. Whoever is passionate, whoever is fervent, will have the first foundation for exercising an enlightened, ardent and fruitful apostolate (Pr 1, 13).

It is necessary that all the hearts of the Pauline Family meet here, in the Holy Tabernacle, in the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus (RSp, 6).

O Mother... it is from your blood that the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus was formed. This is how our heart is formed, so that it may be generous, pious, and strong; so that it is all inflamed with two loves: charity towards God and charity towards the neighbour (Pr 1, 34).

Let us examine ourselves. Let us try to penetrate, to know ourselves: we tell the Lord to send us his light, his grace, so that we can discover the daily defects, the imperfections, and we can conceive a true sorrow of venialities, of small offenses to God (Pr 2, 95).

We could say at the end of life: I have spared nothing for men: neither time, nor health, nor ingenuity, nor comfort; I have saved nothing for the sake of souls, nothing! (Pr 5, 141).

Have we been profoundly faithful? Faithful to collaborate with divine grace, which accompanies us in our vocation? Because this God is always close to us, and we walk leaning on the arm of Jesus Christ, and under the blessed mantle of Mary (Pr 1, 27).

First condition for being apostles: to take care of one’s soul, to understand what it means to be saved; understand what it means to sanctify oneself; and to have our hearts straining every day towards our sanctification, and to use for our sanctification all the means provided by Providence (Pr 1, 12-13).

The hearts of Mary and Jesus were always united in the same mission of salvation for humanity. On Calvary, there were two altars: one, the Cross for Jesus and, the other, the very heart of Mary, whose soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow, while the nails pierced the hands and feet of her son Jesus (Pr 5, 51).

There are people in a company who always utilize the word that brings peace, that resolves questions in a reasonable sense; others, on the other hand, seem to exist to arouse discord, useless emulations, disputes that perhaps make no sense... Love peace, cherish love. Then we will be like God, his children (Pr 1, 48-49).

«Blessed are those who suffer persecution for the sake of justice, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven»... There are those who, in terms of enduring and suffering, love to make others endure and suffer rather than endure and suffer themselves (Pr 1, 49).

Docility, for he who is docile in the hands of God is blessed; and in life, he figures out the roads, because they are indicated by those who have already travelled those roads; in addition to this, he will have great inner peace. And what he puts his hand unto will prosper (Pr 1, 60-61).

To save souls, Jesus Christ came from Heaven as a good shepherd; He went to look for the lost sheep. This world, solicited by its passions, has crooked ways: how many sins and how much disorder! Too much is thought of the earth and little of heaven. “Remember, O man, that you are the Son of God” (Pr 1, 12).

We will present to Jesus, through Mary, the petitions for vocations; but not only for Pauline vocations... Our heart must be open, extensive. Open to everyone’s needs, extensive to enclose all souls. It must be formed according to the Heart of Jesus (Pr 5, 122).

Vocations for all apostolates, vocations for all religious institutes, vocations for all seminaries, vocations for all nations: among them, especially, vocations for the more urgent, more modern, more effective apostolates (Pr 5, 116).

What is needed to correspond to the vocation? Three things are needed: an ever-living faith, continuous docility, fervent and constant prayer (Pr 1, 60).

The faithful and fervent in prayer increase their graces every day: God communicates himself... The more we are united with him, the more the lifeblood of the vine, which is Jesus Christ himself, passes to us, who are the branches (Pr 1, 61).

Each step we take can be said to mark for us an obligation of gratitude to God. If we breathe, if we nourish ourselves, if we have good feelings, everything proceeds from God as from the first principle. Nothing outside of God; all alone from Him; always from God... All goods proceed from Him (Pr 1, 63-64).

And if the Lord has come into our hearts in Holy Communion, let us establish with Him an indissoluble, stable union, a union of affection, of love, and let Jesus producein us the fruits of Communion, that is, the fruits of holiness (Pr 1, 65).

Jesus is the model of every virtue: model of humility, model of charity, model of obedience, model of poverty and at the same time model of purity, prudence, fortitude, temperance. Jesus is a mirror that we can always put before us (Pr 1, 68).

The catechism is the whole work of the writer, the printer, the folder, the bookbinder and the propagandist, united in the same apostolate: each carrying his part and doing the same apostolate all together. All together, having all contributed to this work, they will receive the apostle’s reward (Pr 1, 117).

We must ask the Lord that the Church be loved, that she be known, that she spread throughout the world and gather all humanity in her bosom; so that there may be one fold and one shepherd of the whole world: one school, that of Jesus Christ (Pr 1, 170).

He who is truly a lover of knowledge seeks the truth and, even in discussions, when various opinions are expressed, he weighs the reasons of others, meditates on them more than his own; he tries to discover what is said and, if he recognizes the truth in what is said, he embraces it, corrects himself (Pr 1, 108).

The just has peace with himself, because in him there is order. A reason that commands the senses, a spirit thatdominates the whole being and all powers are under a will illuminated by faith. The righteous who walks towards God has peace with himself (Pr 1, 91-92).

The editor must be a person full of faith above all and, at the same time, he must be an educated person; he must be a person full of hope, who aims at heaven… he must be a person full of charity, that is, who really loves the Lord and really loves souls (Pr 5, 131-132).

There are souls who receive the word of God with good dispositions; who ask for light to understand it well, strength to make serious resolutions and pray to be able to keep them (RSp, 35).
