Hong Kong Community Vacation

The HK community had been trying to go for a community holiday but we could not find any suitable place.

Sr Grace was talking to Goretti, who takes charge of the apostolic activities of the Claretians. Now the Claretians live in Mui Wo, (on Lantau Island), minister to the small christian community in this church, go to Tai Lo for a Saturday Mass and also to Peng Chau for their Sunday Mass. Peng Chau is an island next to Lantau, so we go there by ferry.

Goretti told us we could stay in their so-called retreat house (previous parish church now in disuse). There is an upstairs room with three double-decker beds. Eveything else is very basic.

We arrived for a three-day vacation. Unfortunately it was a very hot season, about 33 degrees. We made our monthly recollection on the first day. This was good because we were in their air-con church all the time. In the evening after a good dinner, we went to the swimming pool.

The water in the retreat house was yellowish because not used often, and we were not too happy to have to take a bath with it. So we spent a lot of time swimming in the cool water and made good use of the refreshing water at the bathroom. The next day we did the same, swimming until late in the evening and taking lovely baths.

We ate all our meals outside and on the last day Fr Anthony brought us to Peng Chau to see the Mass  Centre which  the Claretians had renovated and organized very well for the few parishioners in this remote area. A lady had bought fresh prawns and fish, so we had an excellent seafood lunch with some other parishioners.

We were so happy to see the two Mass Centres now so organized apostolically. Goretti has to go around to take care of all the arrangements.

We praise and thank the Lord for giving us a space and time to enjoy a vacation together. We also felt happy to see the Catholics in this remote parts of Lantau Island coming back to life in the church, enjoying Mass and the sacraments.
