EASTER BLOSSOMS IN SPLENDOUR

IN SINGAPORE’S GARDENS BY THE BAY

My vacation in Singapore this time was marked by two highlights which filled me with Easter joy: the relaxing time in old-world Melaka with tables of plenty, and the amazing wonders of the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.

The Gardens by the Bay feature 1 million plants from 19,000 species, which came from nine different gardens of Africa, America, Asia, Australia and  Europe. This is one of the top ten indoor gardens of the world. This Flower Dome is also the world’s largest glass greenhouse. The temperature is kept at the same temperature needed by the different plants and flowers to thrive and grow.

I could not stop taking pictures of these splendid flowers … roses, orchids, tulips, daisies etc. My eyes were dazed by such a variety of flowers and plants. I felt as if all the colours and brilliance were a scene from heaven. To me this is what Easter means – rising from something old and ordinary into something overwhelmingly new and splendid and beautiful.

Did Mary of Magdala, Peter, John and the other apostles feel like this when they saw the Risen Christ? They too must have been overwhelmed, the Gospel said they were speechless. I felt very blessed to have this little experience of feeling somewhat speechless seeing all those flowers and plants all gathered into one place as in their natural habitat.

I thank God for the science and technology given to people so they could express God’s glory and wonders of Nature, which could be reproduced and shared with everyone anywhere. The wonders of Nature always speak to me about God and his great love for us. Sometimes I find people not having the eyes to see these natural beauties and maybe their lives might not be so interesting and joyful. If we open the eyes of our mind, our body and spirit to all the wonders of the world, we find God so near to us and we feel his loving gaze and his goodness filling our souls with so much brightness. Praise the Lord for his love and care for us.
