Are we prepared to meet the people God sends to us?

First, I try to finish my Adoration before leaving for the BC (Book Centre). As soon as somebody enters the BC, I stop anything that I am doing, and immediately attend to the person. I remember Abraham welcoming the three travellers in front of his tent. He gave them hospitality and food and his great attention. This was the occasion when God told him he would have a son. So this is the occasion when God will give His Son Jesus Christ to those people.

Sisters who bring their personal work to do in the BC and neglect the customers, worse, if they play on their Smartphone, and leave the customers unattended, how great is their responsibility towards our Pauline mission?

To help me build up an Info Bank for future service to them, I write their names in a notebook, their contact number, and details about them. Whenever they come, I know them, call them by name, which makes them very happy and at home with us. I have three Christian pastors who come regularly. One of them is Pastor Chan who asked me to teach him to pray the rosary, he buys many books, posters and religious articles. Who knows, one day, he might be called by God to join us in our faith.

At least two customers have received baptism. They asked questions about the Church and expressed interest. I spent time to bring them for Mass several times, and directed them to the parish for Catechism Classes. I also attended their Baptism during the Easter Vigil in their parish. Now they are our friends and I continue to follow them up in their faith-life.

To serve the customers well, I take care to know all the books (the contents), the DVDs and CDs, so that when the customer tells me what he is looking for, I can show him all the relevant items. It is good to ask them what religion they belong to, this helps us to show them the right books or other items. Sometimes I show them the appropriate Bible quotations to answer their questions. One man asked how can he be sure to go to Heaven. I told him that God is Love and if he does the works of Love, then God will claim him to be his child, and will receive him in Heaven. Then he asked, what works can show this love? I quoted Matthew Chapter 25, from verse 31 onwards. He was very happy and promised he would take action.

Above all, I regard the BC as my Meeting Place with God through the customers. So I smile at everyone who comes in, listen to them, and serve them in the best manner possible. And I keep thanking God for his great favours to me by often sending me persons whom I can help, with the help of his graces. I also make sure I only speak about things that relate to the customers’ spiritual needs, not just chatting and talking about personal matters.

In our BC we started a Survey from April this year, and will finish in 6 months. Our aim is to find out who comes into our BC, what religion, whether men or women, what they look for, what kinds of material were sold, eg books, AV, RA (religious articles), cards, etc.

The result of the survey should help us prepare better to serve our customers.

Anyone has some nice experiences to share in the BC apostolate?

APOSTOLIC SHARING WITH EAST ASIA DELEGATION

The best place for evangelization is the Pauline Book Centre.

In the eight years that I have been in our Mongkok Book Centre, I found many occasions to fulfill what Primo Maestro said about the Book Centre. It is a temple of God where people can find the truth and all kinds of spiritual help for their daily lives.
