I remember on one occasion, when preaching the Gospel of Luke 9:51-62, Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-sang reminded us to get close to God, not to hesitate and “not to wait”. June 30 was the date the Pauline Family held their annual meeting in Macau. It was also my last day in the bank I have worked in for 37 years. To me, it was an important day with special meanings. There were lots of things to attend to in the office but I did not want to lose the opportunity to be with the fathers, sisters and other members of the Pauline Family, so I tried to organize my schedule. With the help of God, everything fell into place nicely and I could attend the meeting.
There are five institutes of the Pauline Family in Hong Kong and Macau: Society of St Paul, Daughters of St Paul, Pious Disciples of the Divine Master, Institute of Our Lady of the Annunciation (IOLA) and Association of Pauline Cooperators. This year’s meeting was organized by the IOLA. We all met at the Convention Centre in Coloane, Macau. We greeted one another warmly, exchanged our latest news and shared an enjoyable time together.
Our Eucharist Mass was presided by the Bishop of Macau, Father Stephen Lee Bun-sang. In his homily, he praised the good work of the Pauline Family and encouraged us to promote the spirit of St Paul, use the mass media in our apostolic work and render our love and service to society. He wished that we would live in the Holy Spirit, be united and grow in love and faith so as to meet the needs of society and spread the Gospel. During the Mass, one of our sisters in Christ, Sylvia Lin, made her commitment to the Association of Pauline Cooperators and promised to work alongside the Daughters of St Paul. Bishop Stephen gave her his blessing and wished that she would follow St Paul’s spirit and testify for Christ in her words and deeds.
We enjoyed a rich and delicious lunch in the Convention Centre. Many thanks to the IOLA for preparing the food for us, if not, our lunch would be an issue, as the Centre is far from town and take away is not feasible. Thanks also to Goretti, one of our Pauline Cooperators, for the sweet and juicy lychees she picked in Dongguan. We treasured their love and sharing. May God reward them a hundred fold.
Our day concluded with a pilgrimage to the St Joseph Seminary and going through the Holy Door. By doing so, we hoped to find strength to dedicate ourselves to God and be compassionate to others, just as our Father is compassionate to us.
May the Holy Spirit continue to guide us. May we show our thanksgiving in our acts of love and bear witness for God in our everyday life.
Dominic
